Swedish massage therapy can be very gentle and relaxing. If you’ve never had massage before, this is a good one to try first.
Swedish Massage is the most common type of massage at the dayspa. Swedish Massage combines various techniques including gliding, kneading and cross-fiber friction. This breaks up the muscle knots and adhesions.
Swedish Massage is based on the concepts of anatomy and physiology. Energy techniques are used in other forms of massage. It can be slow and gentle, or vigorous and bracing, depending on what the client desires.
Swedish massage is performed by a skilled and licensed massage therapist. The skin is lubricated with massage oil, and it usually takes 50 to 60 minutes to massage the whole body.
The inventor of Swedish massage and physical therapy is Per Henrik Ling (1776-1839) of Sweden, a physiologist and fencing master.
In the early 19th Century he developed a system called “Medical Gymnastics” which included movements performed by a therapist to teach the clients. These became the known as “Swedish movements” in Europe and “the Swedish Movement Cure”. They came to the U.S. in 1858 but today it is simply known as Swedish massage.

Sessions usually take an hour, depending on the whether the practitioner will just address a specific area or give a whole body massage. For best results one hour to one & a half hours is the most beneficial.
